Harbour Road Medical obtains reaccreditation from RSHQ to undertake Spirometry Testing for Coal Mine Workers – from October 3rd, 2024.
Posted on September 20th, 2024
In response to the spirometry audit in early 2024, Harbour Road Medical has implemented a comprehensive action plan to address the deficiencies identified. Our efforts were focused on four key areas: client care, process improvement, staff training and ongoing quality assurance.
Client Outreach and Care: The safety and well-being of our clients is paramount. We have proactively contacted all 135 workers affected by the substandard spirometry tests to inform them of the situation and offer repeat testing at no additional cost. We have also coordinated closely with their employers and healthcare providers to facilitate this process and ensure uninterrupted employment. This proactive approach underscores our commitment to client safety and our dedication to rectifying any past shortcomings.
Process Improvement: We have collaborated with Resources Safety and Health Queensland (RSHQ) and other medical experts to thoroughly review and enhance our spirometry testing procedures. Our revised protocols are designed to meet the highest clinical standards, ensuring that each test is performed with precision and accuracy. Additionally, RSHQ conducted an onsite audit with a physical visit to our clinic and confirmed that our process is fully compliant with the relevant standards, ensuring the delivery of high-quality spirometry testing.
Staff Training and Development: To further strengthen our capabilities, we have initiated comprehensive staff training programs for our medical team. This specialised training is focused on spirometry testing and respiratory health assessments, reinforcing best practices and equipping our team with the knowledge and skills necessary to deliver the highest standard of spirometry testing. We believe that continuous professional development is crucial to maintaining the quality and reliability of our services.
Quality Assurance: Moving forward, we are implementing a more robust quality assurance program to regularly audit our testing processes. This program will include ongoing monitoring and evaluation to ensure that all spirometry tests are conducted to meet the quality standards. Any potential issues will be swiftly identified and addressed, allowing us to maintain the integrity and accuracy of our diagnostic services.
Commitment to Transparency and Continuous Improvement
Harbour Road Medical is committed to full transparency throughout this process. The temporary suspension of our spirometry testing services was used as an opportunity to make meaningful improvements, and we have emerged from this period as a stronger, more reliable healthcare provider.
Looking to the Future: A Renewed Focus on Excellence
We are determined to resume our full range of services with enhanced spirometry protocols and practices that not only meet but exceed industry standards. By taking these proactive steps, we aim to better serve our clients and contribute to the health and safety of Queensland Coal Mine workers. We are deeply grateful for the understanding and support of our clients.
Our medical team is dedicated to delivering high-quality healthcare, with a strong commitment to continuous improvement in every aspect of our practice. Our excellence in spirometry testing demonstrates our unwavering focus on worker safety and our continuous drive to improve the quality of our services.
